EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

Since 1997 the PAJA has been providing educational master classes, private instruction and summer programs specializing in jazz, blues and world beat music. During the summer,The Jazz Studies Institute located at the Scranton Cultural
Center, Scranton, PA, provides instruction in jazz theory, history, music business, improvisation, ensemble playing and arranging. Former students of the Jazz Studies Institute and PAJA instruction have attended The Berklee College of Music, New York's Mannes College of Music ,The Manhattan School of Music and The University of the Arts to name a few.

The PA Jazz Teaching Workshop

Music educators are invited to attend a four day jazz instructional and pedagogical

workshop to study with jazz masters and jazz educators. Jazz principles, history, methods, materials, and improvisational techniques for practical applications
in the classrooms of Pennsylvania middle school through high school instrumental and choral music educators will be presented.

The goal of the Jazz Institute is to create a special environment where students,
educators, amateurs and professionals will gain experience in the various styles
of music they will be called upon to perform and create in their future music
careers.

This one week summer program offers a unique and invaluable opportunity for
talented musicians to study and perform with some of New York’s and Northeastern
Pennsylvania’s finest touring and recording jazz artists.

The Jazz Institute is proud to present its premiere student jazz ensemble at the
Scranton Jazz Festival following this week long educational event.
